Frequently Asked Questions

  • The historic Lake Worth Casino Building will remain intact. The Horizon Project integrates this iconic structure into a new, pedestrian-friendly oceanfront promenade. The development will complement the Casino’s historic architecture with new shopping and dining establishments designed to harmonize with its character.

  • The Horizon project is designed to preserve all of the City's public beaches as 100% open to the public, protected by the City of Lake Worth Beach.

  • Horizon will repurpose the remaining surface parking area that will no longer be needed after the new oceanfront parking structure is completed, into a new oceanfront community park. Removing all the pavement and restoring the land to 5 acres of greenspace, featuring walkways, picnic areas, bathrooms and recreation areas will – making it the first new park built in Lake Worth Beach in decades.

  • No, general vehicular access will be restricted. Only emergency vehicles will be permitted along the oceanfront. The current roadway will be transformed into a pedestrian-only promenade reminiscent of a historic boardwalk. Stretching from the Casino Building in the north to the Hyatt Hotel in the south, the promenade will offer a variety of shopping and dining options. Electric trams and other pedestrian-friendly transportation will also be available.

  • Yes. A new, modern parking facility will be constructed behind the Casino Building. This structure will significantly increase available parking spaces and include a direct walkway from the garage to the oceanfront promenade—eliminating the need to walk uphill to the beach. The facility will be ADA-compliant, feature covered parking, and include electric vehicle charging stations.

  • There will be absolutely no cost to residents or businesses. Horizon is fully financing all aspects of the oceanfront development, the Jack Nicklaus Golf Course re-design and the new Community Swimming Pool re-location. Including the new parking the 5-acre Lake worth Beach park, the pedestrian promenade and the canoe / kayak launch area as well as the many other improvements and upgrades to the oceanfront area.

Instead of a "cost", Horizon will generate significant tax revenue for use of the  city. Importantly, the land will remain in City ownership permanently.

  • Absolutely not. Horizon is fully covering the costs of all sea-level rise protections and golf course renovations, which will be designed by Jack Nicklaus. The necessary funding for these improvements will come from the revenues generated by the Hyatt golf course hotel.

  • Absolutely not. The current condition of the City's golf course is poor, needing a major renovation. Before renovating the golf course, the course must become resilient and hardened against the chronic flooding resulting from sea-level rise.

To fund the significant investment required for these resiliency upgrades and renovations, the Horizon project is proposing a development of a hotel at the south end of the golf course, across from the historic Gulfstream hotel. This hotel will provide the revenue necessary to restore and modernize the golf course, ensuring it will and can remain a municipal golf course open to the public.

  • As part of the Horizon Project, a brand-new water recreation facility—including an Olympic-size municipal swimming pool—is planned. Horizon has proposed locating the facility in the northwest neighborhoods of Lake Worth Beach, adjacent to the City’s baseball fields. However, the final decision on the location will be made by the City Commission.

Importantly, Horizon will fully fund the construction of the entire water recreation facility at no cost to the City. This means that funds currently allocated by the City for a new swimming pool can be redirected to support other community priorities.

To fund the significant investment required for these resiliency upgrades and renovations, the Horizon Project proposes the development of a downtown Hyatt Hotel at the south end of the golf course, across from the historic Gulfstream Hotel. This hotel would provide the revenue necessary to restore and modernize the golf course, ensuring it remains a municipal facility open and accessible to the public at all times.

Funds currently earmarked by the City to go towards the construction of a new swimming pool can be redirected to fund other City needs.
